A 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. night curfew will be imposed in Delhi until April 30, the city government announced today, in response to an increase in Covid incidents.
This is the most stringent order issued by the Delhi government since a recent increase in coronavirus infections in the region.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday that Delhi was in the fourth wave of COVID-19, but a lockdown was not being contemplated at this time.
“We are not contemplating implementing a lockdown in the present situation. We are closely watching the situation, and any decision will be made only after extensive public consultation “In a press conference, the Chief Minister said.
According to a Delhi government health bulletin released on Monday, 3,548 new cases of COVID-19 infection and 15 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.
This is the fourth day in a row that Delhi has registered more than 3,500 new incidents. The national capital posted 4,033 new cases on Sunday, the highest single-day tally in 2021.
On April 3, the city reported 3,567 new cases, and on April 2, it reported 3,594 cases. According to the health bulletin, the number of active cases in Delhi increased to 14,589 on Monday, with 7,983 people placed in home isolation.
With 15 more deaths recorded on Monday, Delhi’s Covid death toll now stands at 11,096. In the last 24 hours, 2,936 people recovered from the outbreak, raising the cumulative number of recoveries to 6,54,277.
In the last 24 hours, 64,003 samples were screened, with 43,960 being RT-PCR tests and 20,043 being rapid antigen tests. Given the steady increase in the number of cases in the national capital, the Delhi government’s health department announced on Monday that it would increase the number of Covid beds in all government-run hospitals.
