A newly-wed couple were arrested in connection with three robbery cases by the Jabalpur police on Saturday.
Vikas Rajput alias Vicky aged 20 years and his wife Shreya Awasthi (Rajput) aged 19 years was arrested for robbery, Gohalpur police station incharge Arvind Kumar Choubey said.
On interrogation Vikas told the police he alongwith his wife snatched gold mangalsutra of a woman near Gayatri temple on April 7, thereafter on April 14 they snatched gold mangalsutra of a woman in Badhiya Mohalla area and on April 12 again committed similar crime near Hanuman temple in Adhartal.
They snatched a mangalsuta of a woman in Vijay Nagar area whose complaint is being verified, he said.
Vikas was arrested by the cops while he was standing near a school in suspicious condition and was interrogated.
The police have seized 4 gold mangalsutra worth Rs. 2 lakh and a two wheeler from them.
These areas fall under jurisdiction of two police stations namely Gohalpur and Adhartal police stations of the city.
Three cases are registered against them under sections 392 and 34 of IPC including two cases in Gohalpur police station and one in Adhartal police station.
In a move to curb on the incidents of robbery and theft, Superintendent of Police Jabalpur Siddarth Bahuguna has instructed the officers and police stations incharge to keep watch on the criminals involved in theft particularly those who are released from prisons, interrogate them to trace the culprits of theft and robbery, the focus must be to recovery the cash, jewellery and other articles in such cases.
The team of Gohalpur police station was formed to trace the culprits of snatching gold mangalsutras led to arrest of the couple.
According to the police sources, they got married recently and indulge in the crime to meet the day to day expenses and maintain the lifestyle which they lived before marriage.
