A quick glance at Navneet Kalra’s social media reveals a lavish lifestyle, a successful business, and photos of celebrities visiting his restaurants Town Hall, Mr Choy, Nege and Ju, and, most notably, Khan Chacha in Lutyen Delhi’s Khan Market.
Needless to say, Navneet Kalra is a well-known Delhi businessman who frequently appears on Page 3. However, the headlines he made are unlikely to appear in any newspaper’s celebrity section today.
Police are looking for Navneet Kalra, who also owns Dayal Opticals, for allegedly running a black-marketing ring out of two of his restaurants. The Delhi Police raided Khan Chacha restaurant on Friday and recovered 96 oxygen concentrators, which are medical devices used in the oxygen level management of Covid-19 patients in home isolation.
The police had recovered 419 oxygen concentrators the day before after raiding Kalra’s bar Nege and Ju and a nearby farmhouse.
The raid at Khan Chacha, a popular hangout for politicians, film stars, and sports figures for decades, sparked a Twitter frenzy as people rushed to condemn the iconic establishment’s owner for tarnishing its reputation. However, the majority of them initially got it wrong.
How Navneet Kalra acquired the Khan Chacha brand
Navneet Kalra did not always own the Khan Chacha brand. Haji Banda Hasan, or “Khan Chacha,” founded the eatery, which has since become a chain, in the Khan Market’s bylanes in 1972. It grew from a small stall in a back lane to a household name as everyone from students to celebrities flocked there for a bite to eat.
