Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that the quality level of higher education in the state is better than in other states.
Efforts must be made to make it even better while maintaining its quality.
The gross enrollment ratio of the state in 2021-22 is 28.9, which is more than the national level gross enrollment ratio of 28.4. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that under the multi-disciplinary approach in Madhya Pradesh, more than one lakh 25 thousand students have availed the benefit of studying other subjects besides their core subjects.
This is an important achievement.
Efforts should be made to improve the level of education by continuing useful innovations in higher education.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was presiding over the meeting of the Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Apex Committee and the National Education Policy: 2020 Task Force at Samatava Bhawan (Chief Minister’s Residence) on Tuesday.
Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar, Task Force member Atul Kothari, and Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Hindi Granth Academy Ashok Kadel, Additional Chief Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Principal Secretary Higher Education Anupam Rajan, Commissioner and Secretary Higher Education Nishant Varwade and members of the committee were present.
National Education Policy: Key Points of 2020
In a multidisciplinary approach, 18,000 students from the Arts stream pursued subjects in Commerce and Science, while over one lakh Commerce students opted for Arts and Science.
In Madhya Pradesh, 11,000 Science stream students chose to study Arts and Commerce subjects. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav highlighted that Madhya Pradesh is a leading state in implementing various aspects of the National Education Policy.
The inclusion of agriculture as a subject at the undergraduate level in the higher education system has yielded positive results.
The B.Sc. Agriculture course has been introduced in seven universities and 18 government autonomous colleges, and a Certificate course in Aviation has been launched in five universities.
All universities should be unified under a single umbrella
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, addressing the suggestions received during the meeting, highlighted the significance of the suggestion to bring all universities under one umbrella.
He emphasized that this is crucial from a practical standpoint, as the cooperation of the Higher Education Department is ultimately needed for tasks such as filling positions and managing administrative work across various universities. Dr. Yadav stated that necessary decisions will be made after thorough evaluation and consideration of the proposal.
Introduce nursing courses as well
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the suggestion of conducting nursing courses in colleges and universities to meet the needs of paramedical staff is worth considering.
This is in the interest of students, doctors, and the general public.
In the meeting, the members of the committee and task force said that the initiative of making the biographies of great men a part of the curriculum along with the Indian Studies (Indology) Department in Madhya Pradesh has been appreciated.
More than 19 lakh students registered in Digi Locker in the state
As many as 19 lakh 14 thousand 177 students have got themselves registered in Digi Locker in the state. Information was given in the meeting that 6338 students of the state have completed 90 different certificate courses in 28 colleges. 35 colleges in the state organized career fairs, from which 15 thousand 757 students were benefited. 2276 students have been selected by various companies in the first phase. A digital repository has been established in the state. An e-Shiksha integrated portal has also been created. Teachers have created more than 1600 e-contents and uploaded them on the e-shiksha portal. 4 thousand professors have been given online training through the Faculty Development Programme.
Participation of members of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Apex Committee and Task Force
Those who participated in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav were Dr. Atul Kothari, Vice Chairman of the Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Apex Committee, New Delhi, committee member, Director of Madhya Pradesh Hindi Granth Academy, Shri Ashok Kadel and members of the Higher Education Task Force Committee. Notably, the Task Force Committee constituted in the higher education sector in Madhya Pradesh took important action related to the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
Important suggestions have also been given by the members. Proceedings related to the higher education system of students have been completed in the state as per their interest, capacity, efficiency, and resources. Dr. R.C. Kanhere, Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Fee Regulatory Commission besides Vice Chancellors and academicians of various universities took part in the meeting.
Workshops are being organised continuously in universities and colleges of the state
It was informed in the meeting that various workshops on Indian knowledge tradition have been held in 26 universities and colleges of the state in the last three months. Workshops have been organised on a total of 26 subjects including 18 subjects of graduation level. Ministers, MPs, MLAs etc. participated in the workshops. Chairman, members of Central Study Board, e-content creators, teachers, writers and educationists are among the participants. One-day workshops on 24 subjects were organized in 10 divisions of the state in the last 2 months. A one-day workshop was organized in Raja Shankar Shah University, Chhindwara. Keeping in view the Indian knowledge tradition, teachers will be trained from 5 November to 24 December through all universities. In this, science group includes Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, B.H.Sc./B.Sc., Mathematics subjects. Social science group includes Sociology, Political Science, History, Geography. English literature, Hindi literature, music, Sanskrit literature, psychology, philosophy have been included in the literature and psychology group. Economics and commerce groups have been included in the commerce group. In the context of Indian knowledge tradition, lectures/symposiums by experts, discussions were held in workshops on the topic “Making teaching learning interesting”. This sequence is continuing. Keeping in view the “Indian knowledge tradition various contexts”, various academic and cultural activities are being organized in all universities and colleges. These activities include speech competitions related to Indian knowledge tradition, essay competitions, poster competitions, Indian cultural folk dances, Indian cultural folk songs, general knowledge competitions related to Indian knowledge tradition.
Establishment of incubation centres
The total number of incubation centres is 47. Of these, there are 16 incubation centres in government universities, 12 in private universities and 19 in government autonomous colleges. Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya has been sanctioned Rs 5 crore from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya Jabalpur Incubation Centre has been sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore for Atal Community Innovation Centre by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog.
Similarly, Jiwaji University, Gwalior has received Rs 13.4 lakh. Atal Incubation Centres have also been established in 02 private universities of the state. These include Ravindra Nath Tagore University, Bhopal and Laxminarayan College of Technology (LNCT) Bhopal.
Incentives for Startups
During the meeting, it was reported that 65 start-ups have been launched at the state university level, and a total of 295 start-ups have been initiated in two private universities.
These universities have also provided incentives to support the start-ups, with a total of Rs 12.75 lakh distributed. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav presented an incentive award of Rs 50,000 to Ku. Rupali Dutta for her innovation.
Currently, 620 students have benefited from these initiatives.Under the patents program, the incubation centers of various universities have received a total of 14 patents from the Patent Office, Government of India.
These include 6 patents for Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, 4 for Rani Durgavati University, 3 for Vikram University, and 1 for Barkatullah University. Applications for 27 additional patents from all universities are currently in process.
Virtual Classes
It was told in the meeting that the work of establishing smart and virtual class rooms in the field of higher education in the state is going on continuously. In this sequence, 1047 smart classes are being run in 247 colleges.
Apart from this, 400 virtual classes are being run in 400 colleges. Action is being taken at the Empowered Committee level to include the colleges in the World Bank project to provide smart class rooms in the remaining 325 colleges and virtual class rooms in 172 colleges.
Establishment of Research Centres
210 subjects have been included by establishing 214 research centres in the state. Of these, 69 research centres have been established in Barkatullah University Bhopal, 18 in Vikram University Ujjain, 01 in Pandit Shambhunath Shukla University Shahdol, 57 in Jiwaji University Gwalior, 07 in Rajashankar Shah University Chhindwara, 10 in Awadhesh Pratap Singh University Rewa, 28 in Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Indore, 12 in Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University Chhatarpur and 12 in Rani Durgavati University Jabalpur.
