Vandana Katariya, a member of the Indian women’s hockey team that came fourth in the just concluded Tokyo Olympics, was already honoured at her home by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who presented her with a cheque for Rs. 25 lakh.

Swami Yatishwaranand, a cabinet minister in Uttarakhand, wrote to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday, requesting that the hockey stadium in Haridwar’s Roshnabad be renamed after Team India hockey star Vandana Katariya.

Earlier, the ropeway company Usha Breco Limited said that till August 22, the namesakes of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and Katariya can ride for free to the Mata Chandi Devi temple in Haridwar.

Manoj Dobhal, regional manager of Usha Breco, stated, “They will have to provide their Aadhaar card as identity evidence.”

The chief minister honoured Katariya at her home on Thursday for her performance in the Olympics. She was also presented with a check for Rs. 25 lakh. Katariya, who has been a member of the Indian women’s hockey team for over ten years, has made everyone proud with her dedication and hard work, according to Dhami.

The 29-year-old scored a hat-trick in the recently finished Olympics, in which India’s women’s hockey team made it to the semi-finals for the first time, but lost in the bronze medal match against Great Britain.
