J P Nadda, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has asked party-ruled states to plan a scheme for the welfare of children orphaned by the COVID-19 pandemic, which he says should be initiated on May 30th, when the Modi government will have completed seven years in office.
In a letter to party chief ministers, Nadda also stated that due to the circumstances created by the pandemic, no event will be organized to commemorate the anniversary, and instead, various welfare programs will be initiated to express gratitude to people for giving the BJP the opportunity to serve them.
He told the chief ministers that the Covid pandemic has left deep wounds in the country and community, with many children losing both parents to the epidemic. It is now our duty to care for their future and take solid measures in this regard, he said.
Nadda assured them that they would soon receive directives on a broader scheme to assist such children and their families, and he asked them to draught a policy based on the needs, circumstance, and traditions of their respective states.
“Standing by children who have lost both parents and providing them every support for their safe future is also our social responsibility… The idea is that all BJP-ruled states launch the programme together when the BJP-led government at the Centre completes seven years,” he said
The BJP currently has 12 chief ministers in its ranks. Due to the Covid outbreak and numerous constraints in place due to lockout, the BJP did not hold any big events to commemorate the Modi government’s anniversary last year.
He said that the world has not seen a crisis like this in a century, and that the global pandemic had impacted not only India but the whole world.
It has presented the world with several problems, which the country is resolutely addressing, he added.
