A doctor and his wife in Mumbai are gathering drugs from people who have recovered from COVID-19 and distributing them to infected patients.
On May 1, Dr. Marcus Ranney and his partner, Dr. Raina, launched Meds For More, a citizen campaign to gather leftover drugs from Covid patients that have stabilized.
“We began this effort ten days ago. We procure drugs from housing associations and distribute them to those in need “Dr. Marcus Ranney spoke to the media.
“The concept arose when one of our staff’s family members became afflicted with Covid and required treatment. As you are aware, medications can be costly. There were a few people who had recovered from Covid at the time, so we wanted to take their drugs and donate them “Dr. Raina said.
“After that, we enlisted the assistance of 7-8 people from neighboring buildings to form a team to launch this project with the aim of assisting those who are unable to go out to buy drugs or those who cannot afford the Covid medicines,” she said.
In just 10 days, the pair obtained 20 kilograms of expired COVID-19 medications from recovering patients. These medications will be distributed to primary health care centers in rural districts across India in order to treat the underprivileged who have become contaminated with Covid as soon as possible.
“We now have 100 buildings sending drugs to us. We are a team of eight members, including the volunteers in the various houses. We gathered 20 kilogrammes of drugs last week, which we packed and distributed to our NGO partners “Dr. Marcus Ranney said.
Meds for More gathers all types of leftover medications used to treat COVID-19 patients, including antibiotics, Fabiflu, pain relievers, steroids, inhalers, supplements, and antacids. They are still collecting critical medical devices such as pulse oximeters and thermometers.
Residents from neighboring buildings have been helping to gather drugs as word of the campaign spreads.
