A woman has lodged an FIR of rape and harassment against Congress national secretary, former Madhya Pradesh minister and MLA Umang Singhar at Naugaon police station in Dhar district.
Presently, Singhar is Congress’ co-incharge of Gujarat elections.
On the basis of complaint, the police has registered an FIR against MLA Umang Singar under sections 376, 377, 323, 498 and 506 of the IPC, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra tweeted.
The woman has accused Singhar of raped her on pretext of marriage, Mishra said.
The police is investigating the matter, he said.
Congress leader Umang Singhar reportedly said it was a family matter and not aware about the reason behind the accusations.
