The state run Pandit SN Shukla University, Shahdol is planning to create DNA profiling databank of people suffering from sickle cell diseases in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
This plan of the varsity is on the lines of the initiative taken by State Governor Mangubhai Patel to eradicate the sickle cell diseases from the state.
The university has planned to create DNA profiling data bank of people suffering from sickle cell diseases, Pandit SN Shukla University vice chancellor Dr. Ram Shankar said.
In Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh large number of tribals are suffering from sickle cell diseases, there are certain cases found in non-tribals too, he said.
The database will enable to understand the vulnerable population density in any particular area, he said.
The professors are working on the modalities in this direction, he said.
The varsity has contacted the local government medical college to provide pathology expert in creating DNA data bank when required.
Another, the varsity has contacted the institute in Chhattisgarh for providing expertise in creating the databank.
