Union Minister Prahlad Patel was caught on video today threatning to slap a man who was talking with him for oxygen for his Covid positive relative.
“We’re in dire need…
We did not get any cylinders…
Why don’t they just tell us that we can’t provide you with oxygen? “A man complains to a minister outside a hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh.
Prahlad Patel is the BJP Lok Sabha Member for Damoh.
“Aise bolega toh do khayega (If you speak like this, you will get two slaps),” Mr. Patel snaps, asking the guy to cool down.
The man begins to cry: “That’s just what I’ll get. My mother is on the ground.”
“Did anybody refuse you an oxygen cylinder?” the Minister asks again. The man said, “yes they did, refused. We were only given one for five minutes. It is preferable if you just say no.”
The incident occurred outside the Damoh district hospital, a dedicated Covid facility where patients’ relatives had stolen oxygen cylinders on Tuesday. Images showed enraged relatives stealing cylinders and ransacking an oxygen storeroom.
The Madhya Pradesh government said in a statement after the incident that it had excess oxygen.
There are 3,320 active Covid cases in the Damoh district. In the last 24 hours, the number of reported cases increased by 101.
4, 46,811 people are so far affected in Madhya-Pradesh by novel coronavirus covid-19. 3,59,755 out of which have recovered. Sadly, 4,788 patients have died due to coronavirus in Madhya-Pradesh. 82,268 patients are still in hospital and recovering.
As a result of a sharp increase in virus cases, Madhya Pradesh has imposed restrictions and curfews in many towns. Damoh was an anomaly for weeks when lawmakers lobbied in the region for assembly by-elections on April 17, holding packed gatherings.
