Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the work of providing tap water to every household in the entire state is in progress on a war footing. Every day tap water facilities are being provided in many villages. Till now 59 lakh 7 thousand 373 households have got the facility of water through tap. Tap water has reached hundred percent households of the 2 thousand 709 panchayats of the state. Out of these, 1 thousand 127 panchayats have been certified also. On the other hand, talking about villages, 8 thousand 612 villages are hundred percent tap-water villages, out of which 3 thousand 653 villages have been certified. At the same time the work is progressing rapidly in 25 thousand 290 villages.

Water has been supplied through taps in 73 thousand 276 schools (78 percent) of the state. Tap water facility has been extended to 100 percent schools in 12 districts and more than 90 percent schools in 7 districts. Along with this, tap water facility has reached 42 thousand 614 Anganwadi centres (64 percent). Tap water has reached hundred percent in eight districts and more than 90 percent of Anganwadi centres in nine districts.

Community Management through 31 thousand 173 Village Water and Sanitation Committees

Inclusion of public participation in better management and proper use of water resources, conservation and promotion of sources is an important component of Jal Jeevan Mission. The mission envisages that the community will play a key role in the implementation, management, operation and maintenance of the village water scheme. Along with this, there is a provision of Village Water and Sanitation Committee to ensure participation of villagers in creating public awareness for proper use of water. So far, 31 thousand 173 village water and sanitation committees have been formed in the state. Operation, maintenance and water tax collection work of water supply schemes is being discharged by these committees. Participation of 50 percent women in the committees has been ensured.

The goal of Jal Jeevan Mission can be achieved in a planned manner only with public participation. Keeping this in mind, the department is undertaking orientation of the village water and sanitation committees from time to time. In the mission, the members of the committees are informed about their roles, responsibilities and the works to be done by the village water and sanitation committees. Training is provided for water conservation, operation and maintenance of drinking water schemes, account operation and securing public participation.

Jal Jeevan Mission is bringing happiness along with tap water in the houses. Tap water has provided ease to the lives of the villagers. The problem of drinking water faced by Shri Shrikant Rajput, a resident of Nizampur in Shivpuri district, has been solved by the Jal Jeevan Mission. Rajput says that earlier there was a lot of water scarcity. For water, we had to travel up to one to one and a half kilometer away. Now this problem has been solved with the Nal-Jal Yojana. There is a wave of happiness among the villagers when water reaches every house from the tap.
