Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been emphasizing on the maximum use of Narmada water, the lifeline of the state.

In the past years, work has been done to bring Narmada water for irrigation and drinking purpose in many urban and rural areas.

In this sequence, decision to approve tenders for the construction works of 5 irrigation projects costing Rs.11540 crore for Narmada water use in the state was taken in the meeting on Friday.

With the construction of these projects, an area of ​​about 2.14 lakh hectares will be irrigated and 100 MW of electricity will also be generated.

These decisions were taken in the 75th meeting of Narmada Control Board held in Mantralaya today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Projects Approved

The tenders which were approved in the meeting held today include Upper Narmada 45 thousand 600 hectares of Dindori district, Dudhi 55 thousand 410 hectares of Hoshangabad district, Shakkar-Pench Link 95 thousand 839 hectares of Narsinghpur district, Basania 8 thousand 780 hectares of Mandla district and Dobi irrigation project in 8 thousand 544 hectare area of ​​Sehore district.

The implementation of these projects will ensure the use of 2.223 MAF of Narmada water from Madhya Pradesh’s share.

Chief Minister Chouhan directed to complete the work of Slimabad tunnel of Bargi project by June 2023. Tenders were also approved in two groups for the Rewa branch canal coming out after the tunnel.

Irrigation facility will be created in 42 thousand 700 hectare area.

Chief Minister’s instructions

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan directed that priority should be given to quality in the construction of canals in the state. Similar efforts should be made in future also.

Along with this, continuous inspection of group micro irrigation projects, completion of development works of various ghats of Narmada river and under construction works should also be done.

Finance Minister Jagdish Deora, Forest Minister Vijay Shah, Chairman and Chief Secretary Narmada Development Valley Development Authority Iqbal Singh Bains, Additional Chief Secretary Narmada Valley Development S.N. Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary Finance Manoj Govil and Principal Secretary Public Works Neeraj Mandloi were present.
