The State government owned MP Power Management Company is working hard to remove hurdles in restoring its IT system to full capacity after cyber attack last month, the official said.
MP Power Management Company managing director Raghuraj Rajendran, said after the cyber attack on the servers of the Power Management Company on May 22, the situation has become normal to a great extent.
In an informal talk with the presspersons he said our first priority is to restore the entire system so that it does not hinder any further investigation. Rajendran said there are many hurdles in system restoration after a cyber attack and it is bound to take some time to recover.
At this time the functional system has been restored, he said.
On May 22, information about the cyber attack was received after unusual response in some files, he said.
He said that due to the separate system of e-office and power procurement in the company, there was no effect of cyber attack there. The number of transactions in the power bill payment process of the Power Management Company is comparatively less, hence the execution of this work remained unaffected by the cyber attack.
He said that the problems caused by the cyber attack on the servers of the Power Management Company are being resolved.
In spite of taking precautions, there is always some risk in information technology. He said that efforts are being made to move ahead by working with the advisory of some organizations of the Government of India including the cyber security wing of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) to prevent such cyber attacks in future.
Rajendran said that the system of MP power management is in non-critical category.
He said that security audit will be conducted by different agencies for security of the entire IT system.
The Managing Director said that there is already a plan to contact MP State Electronics Corporation to migrate to an alternative system.
Rajendran said that the system of the Power Management Company will be strengthened after consulting experts and organizations working in this field.
