Bizarre In Politics: Two Madhya Pradesh cabinet ministers addressing a public rally in Bhopal were caught on record endorsing drinking and smoking to state farmers.
Jitu Patwari and Pradhuman Singh Tomar commended the welfare schemes as a way to let people drink and smoke.
The comments comes by the newly-elected Congress in Madhya Pradesh, after three months of its victory in state assembly elections, however, two comments by two ministers of the state listed the government’s achievements that includes arrangements for “smoking” and “drinking” for the farmers of the state.
While the state’s Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Jitu Patwari was caught on camera endorsing distribution of liquor at weddings, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar went on record to hail the state government for giving “freedom” to the old in the state to smoke.
Minister Pradumn Singh while addressing a rally dubbed the elderly pension scheme launched by the Congress government as means for the old to continue and sustain smoking without any hindrance.
The pension scheme was introduced by Chief Minister Kamal Nath within two weeks of forming the government. Under the scheme, marginalised farmers over the age of 60 years are entitled to Rs. 1,000-a-month in pension.
Minister Jitu Patwari, also addressing a rally, said the financial assistance of Rs. 51,000 for the marriage of daughters of small cultivators could be used for making drinking arrangements for the guests.
The minister said that money can be used to get “English as well as Desi” liquor during weddings. The financial help to small farmers was part of Congress’ manifesto and was launched within weeks of forming the government.
Earlier, the BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched “Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna” to provide financial assistance of Rs. 15,000 to poor, needy, destitute families for marrying off their daughters/widows/divorcees.
Citizens of the state have not taken the comments down well as both the ministers, especially Jitu Patwari happens to be the minister of Youth Affairs and such a shocker comment by the state minister has confused the people who elected the party.
