A lawyer Anurag Sahu allegedly committed suicide was followed by angry protest in the Madhya Pradesh High Court premises in Jabalpur on Friday.
The State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh has appealed to the lawyers to abstain from work on Saturday, alleging the deceased Anurag Sahu was being harassed by some officials and fellow advocates.
Council’s vice chairman R K Singh Saini claimed in a statement that Sahu was facing harassment from some officers and advocates. The Bar Council will also write to the Chief Minister demanding action against the policemen who “mercilessly lathi-charged the advocates”, he added.
According to the police Sahu allegedly hanged himself at his house after pleading a case in the high court in the afternoon.
After his death a group of lawyers brought his body to the high court premises and staged protest and allegedly set fire to the chamber of a lawyer in the building of State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh situated inside the court campus.
The police have to use mild cane charge to disperse the protestors, the police said.
Meanwhile, the SBCMP appealed to the lawyers to stay away from court proceedings across the state on Saturday to protest against advocate Sahu’s suicide.
