The Horticulture and Food Processing Department, in collaboration with Netherlands Embassy and a social organization is organizing the ‘International Tomato Conclave-2022’ on May 17 at Bhopal.
Horticulture Department principal secretary E. Ramesh Kumar said eleven prominent districts of the state including Ashok Nagar, Damoh, Jhabua, Katni, Raisen, Sagar, Satna, Shivpuri, Dalia, Singrauli and Anuppur have been selected in ‘Ek Zila-Ek Utpad’ under PM-FME scheme.
In view of the possibility of more work that can be done in the tomato sector. Internationally acclaimed scientists, exporters, processors, related to tomato sector etc, have been invited to the conclave, in which stalls are also being put up to provide information about the latest techniques regarding improved seeds, irrigation, storage, processing, branding, export etc.
Apart from the expansion of tomato production area, special work is being done to increase its production, productivity and to promote exports and set up processing units in these districts. Investors showed interest for setting up 15 tomato based units last year.
At present, 6 units have been established and grants-in-aid is being made available.
Madhya Pradesh occupies a special place in the field of tomato production.
As much as 26 lakh 55 thousand metric tonne production is being made in about 90 thousand 971 hectares.
It is necessary that due to the adaptability of the climate, the farmers of the state get more income from tomato production in a limited area. The purpose of this conclave is to make the producers aware of value addition for the possibilities of further increase in income.
