Special arrangements have been made by the Backward Classes Welfare Department for residential facilities for the backward class students in the state to get education in better educational institutions.
100 seater girls hostel and 50 seater boys hostel are being operated in each district headquarters of the state.
Along with this, hostels are being run in rented buildings for the purpose of providing residential facilities to the students in the block headquarters.
In the year 2023-24, a budget provision of Rs 12 crore for girls’ hostel buildings and Rs 5 crore 70 lakh for boys’ hostel buildings has been made by the department for the districts.
Backward Class Student Meritorious Scholarship
In order to encourage the meritorious students of the backward classes, Meritorious Award Scheme Rules-2010 have been implemented in the state. Meritorious students of this class are rewarded at the district level under the scheme. Under the scheme, Rs 5,000 each to a boy and a girl student who scored the highest marks in the district in class 10th board, Rs 10,000 each to a boy and a girl student who scored the highest marks in class 12th board.
