A team of Economic Offence Wing (EOW) team during search in the residence of The Board of Education Church of North India (Jabalpur Diocese), chairman Bishop PC Singh in Jabalpur found Rs. 1.65 crore cash (Indian currency) and US dollar amounting Rs.18000, 118 Pound (foreign currency), jewellery worth Rs. 80 lakh, documents of 17 immovable properties, 48 bank accounts, on Thursday.

The search is continued, the official said.

The EOW is carried search in the residence and office of  Bishop Singh for allegedly forged documents to change original name of the education society, misappropriate funds collected as fees from students in various education institutions of the society, and use it for personal requirements, EOW superintendent of police Devendra Singh Rajput said.

A complaint was received from Father Hira Naval Masih, Archdeacon/Metropolitan Commissary , Diocese of Nagpur (CIPBC) Church of North India, Indian Church Trustees against Bishop PC Singh of financial misappropriation of the society’s funds, he said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjeet Singh probed the complaint and in preliminary found around Rs.2.70 crore of the fees collected from students in various educational institutions between 2004-05 to 2011-12 was transferred to the religious institutions , misused and spend it on own personal requirement, he said.

After getting some evidence, a case was registered against Bishop Singh and former assistant registrar Firms and Society BS Solanki under sections 420, 406, 468, 471 and 120 B of IPC.

The searches were conducted to gather documents related to the misappropriation of funds, he said.
