Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday held a virtual meeting with the concerned officials regarding the Namami Narmade project at Dumna Airport, Jabalpur.

The Chief Minister instructed the nodal department, Urban Administration Department to prepare the DPR of the project at the earliest. He said that the nature and status of the project would be clear after the DPR. In this, it should also be specially seen that there should not be any problem in the environment and Narmada conservation. He said that the project would be completed in phases.

Giving information about the funding structure of the project, Chouhan said that the project should be done in phases. The first phase will cost around Rs. 200 crore. In this, upgradation and cleanliness of ghats, plantation of trees in Narmada buffer zone, bio-diversity, landscape, public utilities etc. have been included. He instructed to start the work of the first phase soon. The CM said that in the second phase of the project, Rs. 400 crore will be spent on Narmada-Path and other development works. It will also have Narmada Village, Narmada Vatika and 15 kilometer Narmada Path. Along with this, Narmada Research Centre, Bio-diversity Conservation, Water Quality Monitoring System, Bioremediation, Parking etc. are included.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the third phase of the project would cost an estimated Rs. 300 crore. In this, including the components of Phase 1 and 2, proposals will be prepared from the agency working in the field of development and conservation of ghats. CM Shri Chouhan said that about Rs. 1042 crore will be spent on the Namami Narmada project. The nodal department and the district administration should speed up this work. He said that a letter should be written to the High Court regarding the instructions of the High Court about construction within 300 meter area on the banks of Narmada and the Advocate General should coordinate in this work.

Collector Saurabh Kumar Suman said that development will be done from Gwarighat to Bhedaghat under the Namami Narmade project, which has 17 ghats. The work of development of Narmada Path will be done for the conservation-promotion of Narmada ji and up-gradation of ghats situated on its banks along with connecting them. For conservation, promotion and upgradation of Narmada, such components will be used which will be environment friendly. It is noteworthy that during Chief Minister Chouhan’s stay in Jabalpur, he had announced the construction of Narmada Corridor, in connection with which today he gave necessary instructions in this regard after having a virtual discussion with the officials concerned during his stay in Jabalpur.
