Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company has innovated and developed the state’s second and Bhopal’s first GIS Substation (Gas Insulated Switch Gear Substation)to provide strength and reliability to the transmission network of the capital Bhopal.
The sub station has been constructed in the densely populated E-8 Arera colony of Bhopal at a total estimated cost of about Rs 38 crore (Sub Station & Line cost)with 50 MVA Power Transformer.
This substation was energized with 50 MVA power transformer capacity.
This is the second GIS sub station of Madhya Pradesh, which is connected to the transmission network of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company.
With the commissioning of this substation, power transmission system in the central Bhopal region has been strengthened, another option of Extra High Voltage substation has become available to Bhopal.
This is the 11th Extra High Voltage substation of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company in Bhopal city which is functional.
Second GIS of the state built in dense population. substation
Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company, Er. Sunil Tiwari informed that Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company felt the need for construction of additional substation in Bhopal city in view of the increasing demand of electricity in Bhopal.
Due to non-availability of sufficient land for construction of conventional substations and lines in dense population like Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company had Decided to prepare Gas Insulated Switch Gear Substation E8 Arera Colony Bhopal ,which has been constructed by M/s Hitachi Energy Pvt Ltd for Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company.
Besides taking up less space in construction, there are other advantages as well.
Managing Director Er. Sunil Tiwari told that the construction of the GIS substation (Gas Insulated Switch Gear Substation) requires less land than conventional air insulated substations.
The budget for the construction of substations with this technology is about two and a half times more than that of conventional substations.
But Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company approved this construction keeping in view the need of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
These substations are also known colloquially as “maintenance free” substations due to the fact that they are in gas insulated chambers.
About 5 lakh dense population of the city will benefit
Managing Director Er. Sunil Tiwari told that with construction of this 132 KV GIS sub station.
The maximum benefit from the substation will be the Central Zone Electricity Distribution Company. About 5 lakhs residence of dense populated area of Shahpura, E-8 Arera Colony, Govindpura and Trilanga area of , will be able to get quality electricity at proper voltage at less interruption.
Due to the reduction in the length of the 33 KV feeders, in the event of power interruption in these lines, rectification work will be possible soon.
Power can be supplied to a total of 08 no 33 KV feeders from this newly constructed substation built in the dense population of Bhopal.
