On celebration of 75th anniversary of Independence Day, Jabalpur Zone, Additional Director General of Police Umesh Joga awarded the cops including 17 women cops for their investigation in sensitive crime cases led to conviction of accused persons varying from lifer, 20 to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in five districts coming under Jabalpur Zone including Jabalpur, Katni, Chhindwara, Seoni and Narsinghpur.
The 17 women cops which are awarded are of different posts – deputy superintendent of police, inspector and sub inspector posted in various police stations in five districts coming under Jabalpur zone.
The scheme of identify sensational crimes is effective in Madhya Pradesh since 2008. Such crimes, on the occurrence of which an atmosphere of panic is created in the area and sensation spreads, such crimes are immediately marked in the heinous sensational category by the Superintendent of Police and the Collector by meeting the district level committee.
The main purpose of marking in the criminal cases as heinous sensational category is to take up prompt investigation in such crime, arresting the accused, collecting evidence at each point and presenting the challan in the courts. The prosecution evidence should be made by getting the trial done and ensuring the presence of the witnesses during the trial, as a result the accused can be punished for the act and to convey the message of security to the society.
As of now in year 2022 under Jabalpur zone, in 58 such cases the accused were convicted including 12 cases in Jabalpur, 8 in Katni, 14 in Chhindwara, 6 in Seoni and 18 in Narsinghpur and the term of conviction varies from life imprisonment to 20, 10 years RI.
