Sources stated Monday in the middle of a hectic cycle about Prime Minister Narendra Modi preparing to reject his Council of Ministers, the enlargement of Cabinet will take place this week.
Sources said that PM Modi has had several discussions on the enlargement of the Cabinet with Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and other top ministers and BJP leaders.
Source sources added that key allies like JD(U) and LJP’s Paras fraction were likely to be adjusted in this expansion as well.
There could also be few BJP MPs in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, sources added.
On 30 June PM Modi spoke to his Ministerial Council and urged them to provide facts and statistics on opposition charges. “It might be a signal that after a session the PM can opt for a rejig,” added the insider.
Sources believe that cabinet rework should not only be an exercise to define administrative administration for PM Modi’s remaining three years but also to send a political signal by rectifying regional representation with a view to future polls, as and when it takes place. The Minister told India today, “It would be a mid-term course correction by the PM.”
The Prime Minister may today have an 81-member council, according to the information acquired by India, and 53 ministers currently serve in the cabinet of PM Modi. Sources indicate that some of the 28 positions open to strengthening the administrative and political footprint of the administration might be filled by PM Modi.
Sources stated that a little more than 20 changes were possible in the council by the prime minister. “The adjustments can encompass new inductions, government leaders sent to the party, vice versa, and portfolio rearrangement,” a leader said today to India.
