Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that the post-poll visit of Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to Cooch Behar in northern Bengal violates protocols for long time on camp sites.
The Governor will visit Cooch Behar on 13 May in the aftermath of the poll, in order to meet families affected.
“I find from social media that you are unilaterally proceeding to the district of Cooch Behar on May 13, 2021, and, sadly, I find that to be violative of the long-standing norms as evolved over several decades. I, therefore, would expect that you will kindly follow the well-established norms of protocol, as stated above, and desist from abrupt decisions with regard to field visits,” Mamata Banerjee said in a letter to Jagdeep Dhankhar.
For the third time in the West Bengal legislature almost a week after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won a majority, a war of words broke out between Party Check Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Since Mamata Banerjee made a sermon as the Minister-in-Chief on May 5, the Governor told her that she was urgently needed to end post-poll violence that took on the State after the TMC won 213 assembly polls. A far second with 77 seats finished the BJP, which emerged as the main opposition.
Quoting another letter she wrote in September 2020, Mamata Banerjee wrote, “I had requested and specifically advised you to refrain from surpassing the Chief Minister and her council of ministers, and communicating with and dictating the state officials in excess of your power under the Constitution and directing them to attend before you.”
“I find that you are steadily ignoring this advice, solemnly rendered by me to you, and have been communicating with and dictating the state officials. You have also been seeking reports from them directly. I urge you and again request and advise you to refrain from this. I am asking my Chief Secretary to go by this norm,” she added.

He added, “I would urge you to take note of the extremely alarming situation in which the state has landed as a consequence of unprecedented post-poll retributive violence.”
Since he became governor of West Bengal in July 2019 the TMC has shared an aggressive relationship with Jagdeep Dhankhar. The two of them differed in various issues: Mamata Banerjee and the governor.
Mamata Banerjee wrote on Wednesday to Premier Narendra Modi urging him to ‘import vaccines speedily’ from global manufacturers.
“About 10 crore people are in need of vaccination in West Bengal and 140 crore people in the country, but only one microscopic percentage has been provided. The reputable and authentic manufacturers with international recognition and credibility can be identified with the help of scientists and experts, and it is possible for us in this country to quickly import vaccines from these ends across various parts of the globe, l urge you to take up that effort without delay; “In the letter, she said.
The TMC chief also recommended that PM Modi ‘encourage world and national players to open franchise operations in India. The TMC chief suggested this.
“Even the national players could be inspired to go for the franchise mode for bulk production of vaccines. We in West Bengal are ready to provide land and support for any manufacturing franchisee operation for authentic vaccine manufacturing,” she added.
