Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is in New Delhi on a five-day visit. During her visit to the national capital, she will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as key Opposition leaders.
Mamata Banerjee is visiting Delhi for the first time after regaining power in West Bengal’s Assembly elections for a third straight term.
The visit comes amid reports that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is attempting to form an anti-BJP coalition in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Mamata Banerjee will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at 4 p.m. She will meet with Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh state minister Kamal Nath and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma before meeting with the Prime Minister.
Mamata Banerjee will meet with Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi in New Delhi after her meeting with PM Modi.
On July 28, the West Bengal chief minister is expected to meet with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.
Banerjee asked in parliament last week that the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister clarify if the Central government was involved in the alleged eavesdropping on important politicians, activists, journalists, and ministers using a spying virus developed by an Israeli firm.
The BJP, on the other hand, countered that the TMC was attempting to deflect attention away from a report released by a national human rights organization that chastised the state administration for post-election violence.
“The NHRC report has unmasked the government and all its lies are now out. In a bid to divert the attention the TMC is now raising such allegations. But this won’t stand,” said Samik Bhattacharya, BJP spokesperson in West Bengal.
