The Central Government has clarified that efforts are being made to ensure participation in development projects in the Maldives and they are being implemented rapidly.
According to the report of the Foreign Affairs Committee presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the government told the committee that the commitments of technical and financial assistance, including the distribution of outstanding loans, are carried forward, in consultation with the Maldives government and on the basis of their priorities. Government has given this reply to the Parliament Committee at a time when there is instability in the Maldives and for some time now there are reports of no such warmth in relations between India and Maldives.
In the report, the committee has said that it is pleased to note that under the assistance of the Maldives, a provision of Rs 75 crores has been made in the Budget Estimate of 2017-18 and allocation under the loan and advance funds has been increased to Rs 170 crores. .
