President Mohamed Nasheed appealed for military intervention from India to resolve the ongoing political crisis in his country. The conflict between the judiciary and President Abdullah Yamin in the Maldives has gone deeper. President Yameen has declared an emergency in the country and the army has arrested the Supreme Court judges of the country. Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and another judge Ali Hameed were arrested within a few hours of the announcement of the Emergency by the President yesterday. Information about any investigation or any allegation was not given to them. Former President Mamun Abdul Gayoom, who is supporting the Opposition, was also detained at his residence.
President Yameen accused the judges that he was plotting to overthrow them and the emergency has been imposed to investigate the conspiracy. Addressing the nation on TV, Yameen said, “We had to find out how big this conspiracy or coup was.” Concerned about the political crisis in the Maldives, India yesterday told its citizens that they will not make an unnecessary visit to this island country until further notice. India is keeping an eye on the situation of the Maldives. Former President Nasheed has appealed for help from India. His Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is operating its operations from Colombo.

In his tweet, Nasheed said, “We would like the Indian government to send an ambassador supported by his army so that all political prisoners, including the former President Mamun Abdul Gayoom, can be rescued from custody and brought to his house. We are talking about physical presence. ‘ After demolishing the first president of the democratically elected Maldivian President Nasheed in 2012, this country has witnessed many political crisis. On Thursday, there was a major political crisis in Maldives, when the Supreme Court ordered the release of nine leaders in the jail. The Supreme Court said that the trial being run on those inmates is politically motivated and defective. Nasheed is also among these nine leaders. The Yemen government refused to implement the order of the Supreme Court, after which the round of protests began in the capital Malé.
