Makar Sankranti Uttarayan Punyakal Utsav to be celebrated in Ujjain, Gwalior and Bhopal from 11th to 15th January on instructions of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

The Science and Technology Department has prepared an outline of the programme schedule and issued instructions.

The event is being organized by Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology.

As many as 150 students will be taken on a tour to Varahamihira Astronomical Observatory, Dongla village, Dr. Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar Observatory in Ujjain every day from 11 to 15 January.

The Students will be selected by the Collector/District Education Officer. Scientific Youth Dialogue programme will be held on January 15 at Government Madhav Science College.

A Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) show and Scientific Youth Dialogue will be organized for 300 students every day between January 11 and 15 at the Center for Creative Learning, Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, Bhopal.

Students from Class 8th to 12th will participate in it.

Students will be selected by the District Education Officer.

In Gwalior, 50 students will be taken on a tour of the planetarium every day from 11 to 15 January.

M.P. Council of Science & Technology was established under MP Society Registration Act, 1973 in October, 1981.

Apex body of the Council is General Body and Chief Minister is the President of General Body.

There are 61 members consisting of ministers and secretaries if different state department and head of the departments of Water resources, PHE, PWD, Forest, Agriculture, Industry and Technical education.

The main objective of the Council is:

  • To identify area in which Science and Technology can be utilized for achieving the socio-economic objectives of the State and in particular the objectives of tackling the problems of backwardness, unemployment and poverty in the rural areas and among the under-privileged sections of society such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Landless Labour, Artisans, Small and Marginal Farmers and Women. 
  • To advice Government on policies and measures necessary to promote utilization of Science and Technology for achievement of the said Socio-economic objectives.
  • To initiate, support, promote and co-ordinate such research and development projects to the achievement of specific objectives and problems and assist in the fruitful exploitation of the natural resources of the state through various institutions and organizations in the state.
