On Wednesday,the State of Maharashtra has recorded a total of 920 new COVID-19 deaths and more than 57,000 new corona cases, despite the fact that some of the state’s worst-affected districts showed a decreasing trend in infections.
In Mumbai, there were 3,879 new cases and 77 deaths, while in Pune, there were 9,084 new cases and 93 deaths.
There have been reportedly 6.41 lakh active covid19 cases in the state.
Officials say that of the 920 deaths recorded on Wednesday, 414 occurred in the previous 48 hours and 219 in the previous week. The remaining 287 deaths occurred prior to last week.
The statistics come on the same day that the Supreme Court of India applauded Maharashtra’s treatment of the second wave of corona infections, urging the centre to learn from the “Mumbai model” in order to ensure that Delhi has enough oxygen. It also declined to discourage the High Court from keeping an eye on the case with oxygen.
On Tuesday evening, Health Minister of Maharashtra Rajesh Tope said that the coronavirus caseloads are declining in 15 districts in the state, which is the worst-affected with about 6.6 lakh active cases.
Mumbai, Aurangabad, Thane, Nashik, Raigad, Nagpur, Latur, Amravati, Nanded, Dhule, Bhandara, Nandurbar, Osmanabad, Chandrapur, and Gondia are among the districts showing a decrease in incidents.
After a two-day dip, Mumbai’s daily infections increased by over 1,300, while daily fatalities increased by 15. The day before, the country’s financial capital had seen 2,554 incidents and 62 deaths.
In the last three days, less than 30,000 coronavirus tests were performed every day, while 35,377 swab samples were examined in the last 24 hours.
On April 4, Mumbai had the largest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day with 11,163 cases, following which the number of cases started to decrease.
