Due to a lack of doses in the state, Maharashtra announced on Tuesday that it is “slowing down” the Covid vaccination process for those aged 18 to 44 in order to concentrate on those aged 45 and up. The vaccination operation, however, will not be stopped, according to state Health Minister Rajesh Tope.
“We are slowing down the process (of vaccination) for 18-44 because we don’t have vaccines. We don’t want to stop but right now we have no vaccines. So we will be giving vaccines right now to 45+ only,” Mr Tope told.
“We’re talking to the Chief Minister about providing more vaccines.” he added
The state had previously stated that it was exploring the idea of specifically importing vaccines for use by Mumbai residents.
We’re looking into the possibilities of obtaining vaccines from around the world for Mumbai. If we can do it, we’ll be able to vaccinate Mumbai’s residents in three weeks In an interview with the press on Monday, state minister Aaditya Thackeray said.
Maharashtra, the pandemic’s worst-affected district, registered 37,236 new infections on Monday, bringing the total number of active cases to nearly 6,000 and the total number of cases to nearly 51.4 lakh. There were also 549 deaths, bringing the figure to 76,398.
COVID-19 vaccine is available for free at government vaccination centers that accept doses from the center for qualifying demographic groups, including healthcare professionals, frontline workers, and individuals over the age of 45, according to the Liberalized Pricing and Accelerated National COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy.
States and private clinics, on the other hand, must obtain 50% of the vaccines in order to immunize people aged 18 to 44.
