According to Maharashtra minister Vijay Wadettiwar, the Thackeray administration devised a five-level unlock strategy for the state based on the positive rate and occupancy of oxygen beds in the districts. Local rail services are now prohibited for the general public in Maharashtra. People would be permitted to travel in local trains if the positive rate in Mumbai continues to drop, according to the article.
Meanwhile, five districts will be unlocked in the second phase, ten districts in the third phase, and two districts in the fourth phase.
The Maharashtra government had previously declared that fixed deposits of Rs 5 lakh will be issued in the names of orphaned children who had lost at least one parent due to COVID-19. They will also receive a Rs 1,125 monthly stipend.
Currently, 162 children in the state have lost both parents, at least one of them has succumbed to the epidemic. Officials say nine of these children are in government institutions because they have no family to care for them.
Maharashtra on Thursday registered 15,229 Covid cases, a substantial decrease from the highest single-day tally of 68,631 that it registered on April 18. The number of cases has been seeing a steady decline since mid-May. The total cases in the state now stand at 57.91 lakh, of which 2,04,974 are active.
