Even as Maharashtra battles the Delta Plus variant, a mutation more dangerous than all of the state’s previous variants, daily cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) have been trending upward after remaining below 10,000 for days. The number of daily Covid-19 cases surpassed 10,000 on Thursday, with 9844 people infected.
On Wednesday, Maharashtra discovered 10,066 people who tested positive for Covid-19. On June 16, Maharashtra had 10,107 cases of infection; since then, the state has had fewer than 10,000 cases. On Tuesday and Monday, there were 8,470 and 6,270 cases of infection, respectively.
In Maharashtra, there have been 6,007,431 cases so far. The total number of active patients in Maharashtra now stands at 121,767, with 119,859 deaths. Pune has the most deaths (16,456), followed by Mumbai (15,348). On Tuesday and Monday, there were 8,470 and 6,270 cases of infection, respectively.
Uddhav Thackeray, the chief minister, held a meeting with the local administrations of seven districts on Thursday, instructing them to prepare for the possibility of a Covid-19 third wave. He requested that the state health department work with local governments to develop a plan to improve health infrastructure.
In light of the Delta Plus variant, the chief minister also warned district administrations against risking more concessions under the state government’s five-level plan.
With the exception of Hingoli, Thackeray convened a review meeting of collectors from seven districts: Sindhudurg (1.21 percent), Ratnagiri (0.97 percent), Kolhapur (0.79 percent), Sangli (0.54 percent), Satara (0.40 percent), Raigad (0.39 percent), and Hingoli (0.004 percent). The state’s average positivity rate is currently 0.15 percent.
