On Sunday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that fully vaccinated Mumbai residents will be able to travel in local trains starting August 15. Another requirement, according to the chief minister, is a 14-day gap between the second and third doses of Covid-19.
The announcement is sure to put a smile on commuters’ faces who use the local trains frequently. In fact, they are regarded as Mumbai’s lifeblood.
In April of this year, when the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic was at its peak in the state, the metropolis’ suburban train services were suspended for the general public.
Only government employees and essential service workers are permitted to travel on local trains at this time.
Before boarding local trains, follow these steps and keep these things in mind:
- For local train travel, the Maharashtra government has created special railway passes.
- Those who have been fully vaccinated and have completed the 14-day period following their second dose of Covid-19 vaccine can apply for special railway passes on their smartphones using a specially developed app.
- According to Thackeray’s announcement, those without smartphones will be able to get the pass offline. These passes can be obtained from the ward offices in your area.
- The railway administration will be able to verify the authenticity of these passes using QR codes.
- The Mumbai residents were urged not to allow anyone to obtain passes illegally, according to the chief minister.
