Over ten persons were injured ncluding priests in a fire that broke out in the sanctum sanctorum of the Mahakal temple, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh during Bhasma Aarti performed early morning on March 25.
Sooner the ‘gulal’ fell on the puja thali on which the diya (lamp) was kept that was burning the fire broke.
The accident that happened in Mahakal temple of Ujjain is very painful. I wish for the speedy recovery of all the devotees injured in this accident. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in every possible help to the victims: PM @narendramodi, Modi said in a message on X (formerly Twitter).
During the incident devotees in large number including some VVIPs were present in the Nandi Hall in front of the sanctum sanctorum.
Reacting on the incident, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said few priests have been injured and they have been admitted to hospitals in Indore and Ujjain. I am going there.
It is all the blessing of god that it didn’t turn out in a major incident but whatever has happened, I have ordered a magisterial investigation and will ensure that these things won’t repeat. Action will be taken against those at fault, he said.
CM announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for each injured person and free medical treatment.
Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said the fire may have been caused by chemicals in ‘gulal’.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a telephonic discussions with CM Mohan Yadav to address the situation promptly.
Amit Shah, expressing concern, assured that the local administration is extending all possible support and treatment to the injured individuals.
He conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the speedy recovery of those affected by the incident.
Shah in a message of X said talked to Chief Minister Shri @DrMohanYadav51 and got information regarding the fire incident in Shri Mahakal Temple of Ujjain. The local administration is providing assistance and treatment to the injured. I pray to Baba Mahakal for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Ujjain Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry. District Panchayat CEO Mrinal Meena and Additional Collector Ujjain Anukul Jain will conduct a thorough investigation into the entire incident. The Collector has directed the inquiry committee to submit its report within three days.
