The ‘corona curfew’ in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal and Berasia towns was extended on Sunday until May 24, with only essential services and emergency travel exempted.
The curfew, which was first enforced on April 12, has been extended several times in an effort to halt the transmission of the lethal virus. The curfew was scheduled to end on May 17 at 6 a.m.
Lavania released the order under the authority granted by Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. According to the decree, the curfew has been extended within the Bhopal Municipal Corporation and Berasia Municipal Corporation areas.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday that the COVID-19 positivity score in Madhya Pradesh has dropped from 24% to 10.68%, with some districts displaying less than five detections per 100 tests.
The CM said in a video clip sent to media outlets that “we have been active in controlling the pandemic” and that the positivity rate was “falling day by day.” Chouhan said that the Mukhyamantri COVID Upchar Yojana provides free care in the state, especially to the poor and middle class.
As of Saturday, the COVID-19 caseload in Bhopal stood at 1,12,226 people, including 838 deaths.
