In a first, state run Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company installed high voltage power transmission lines towers on pile foundation to cross big rivers.
To cross Tawa river, four towers are installed on pile foundation in the patch of 2.5 kilometers of high voltage transmission lines of 132KV of 32.9 kilometers stretch from Budhni to Mohasa (Babai) DCDC (Double Circuit Double Stringing). The cost to construct the pile foundation was accrued to Rs. 31 crores.
The latest state of art design and technology to erect the pile foundation for high voltage transmission lines towers was used by the Transco for first time to cross any river in the state.
According to the officials, earlier to cross the high voltage power transmission lines through big rivers one has to search a spot where the banks were narrow so that the towers on both the sides can be erected.
But with the introduction of this pile foundation technique the high voltage power transmission lines could be crossed from wide spots of the river too. MPPTC Chief Engineer (planning and desinging) Sanjay Kulshrestha said this technique is very useful in challenging geographical conditions particularly in areas experiencing floods. The pile foundation technique is flexible method easy to modify and maintenance of lines.
