In a joint action, the Madhya Pradesh Police and Income Tax Department teams seized Rs. 70.65 lakh cash from residence of bookies in Jabalpur on Saturday.
Three bookies were arrested including Akash Goga, Ajit Goga and Inderjit Singh in connection with online betting on the open web, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Gopal Khandel said.
The searchers were conducted on instructions of Jabalpur Superintendent of Police Siddharth Bahuguna after getting inputs about Akash Goga, Ajit Goga and Indrajit Singh provide IDs for online betting from home and keep the cash collected for betting in their residence if the houses are raided instantly the cash might be recovered, the official said.
The flats of two bookies Akash Goga and Ajit Goga were searched in the apartment in Napier Town locality of the city where Rs. 23.15 lakh cash, notes counting machine, mobile phone having data of IDs and cash transaction of online betting was seized, he said.
Similary on search of house of Indrajit Singh, Rs. 47.50 lakh cash, mobile phone having IDs and cash transaction of betting was seized, he said.
It is noteworthy that in the last one week, around Rs 1.23 crore in cash has been confiscated from the bookies of IPL cricket.
