Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed pride in Madhya Pradesh as the birthplace of the nation’s major rivers. He noted that the Narmada and Tapti rivers, originating in Madhya Pradesh, not only bring joy and prosperity to their home state but also enrich Gujarat with abundance.
The Son River, which begins in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, flows into the Ganges in Bihar, enhancing its waters.
Similarly, the Chambal River, originating in Madhya Pradesh, sustains life in Rajasthan, making these rivers vital to the state’s identity.
This campaign, launched from Surat, is a mission to bring life through water conservation.
He affirmed Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to the “Jal Sanchay- Jan Bhaagidari” programme, aimed at water conservation through public participation.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to facilitate the sharing of Narmada waters with Rajasthan, emphasizing the importance of inter-state cooperation and effective utilization of Narmada’s resources.
Highlighting Gujarat’s water challenges, Dr. Yadav underscored the shared responsibility to support the state.
He delivered these remarks at the “Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhaagidaari-Jan Andolan” programme in Surat, Gujarat, as part of the “Catch the Rain” campaign under the National Water Mission.
The Programme Began with a Water Offering in a Large Vessel Symbolizing Conservation
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhaagidari-Jan Andolan programme to boost rainwater harvesting and promote sustainable water management.
The programme held in Surat aimed to further this mission and was attended by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, senior public representatives, and officials from the Union Jal Shakti Ministry and various states.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was warmly welcomed with a bouquet, angavastram, and a memento. He was also presented with the resolution letter for the “Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhaagidari-Jan Andolan Program.” To inaugurate the event, the dignitaries symbolically poured water into a large vessel, representing the commitment to water conservation and storage.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, drawing on Indian cultural and mythological references, highlighted the enduring significance of water conservation.
He remarked that Lord Mahadev demonstrated the value of preserving water by holding the Ganga in his matted hair, while Lord Shri Krishna underscored it by lifting the Govardhan mountain.
Just as Bhagirath played a vital role in bringing Mother Ganga to earth, Union Minister C.R. Patil has been instrumental in preserving the waters of the Ganga.
He praised Gujarat as a land of renown and prosperity, a place that gave rise to influential leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and the legacy of Lord Krishna in Dwarka.
