The launch of Battlegrounds Mobile in India is approaching, and the excitement for the game is growing with each teaser image/video that the firm uploads on its social media accounts. Politicians are calling for a Battlegrounds Mobile India ban, as much as the launch is anticipated. Arvind Dharampuri, a Lok Sabha MP from Nizamabad, Telangana, has written to IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad over the Battlegrounds Mobile India launch. The letter does not expressly request a Battlegrounds Mobile India ban, but it does highlight some of the game’s flaws that the Indian authorities should investigate further. While Battlegrounds Mobile India keeps data in India and Singapore, it also enables worldwide data transfers, according to the statement. The Terms of Service will be governed by the laws of the Republic of South Korea, where Krafton is headquartered. Dharampuri has also requested that the Union Minister investigate Krafton’s investments and agreements with Tencent for transparency.
This isn’t the first time that a government official has objected to the Battlegrounds Mobile India game. Ninong Ering, an MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, has petitioned the national government to outlaw the game in the country. MP Abhishek Singhvi called for a ban on Battlegrounds Mobile in India, claiming that releasing the game will allow Tencent to re-enter the country.
Despite the bad feedback and calls for a ban, Battlegrounds Mobile India maintains the large following that PUBG Mobile has amassed. The game just surpassed 20 million pre-registrations on Android, and these figures are expected to rise even more with the release of the iOS version. It remains to be seen whether the Indian government will take action to solve the game’s issues or wait for it to be formally released. Only time will tell if this is true.
