The questions raised by the Opposition Congress on the purchase of fighter aircraft Rafael from France was a huge furore in Parliament on Thursday.
On the demand of making public the information related to Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s Raphael deal, Arun Jaitley said in the Lok Sabha that it is not in the national interest to make information related to arms deals public. By demanding the price of the deal, the opposition is compromising with India’s security.
Jaitley said on Rahul Gandhi’s statement, “Rahul Gandhi has created a false controversy. Referring to a statement made by Defense Minister Pranab Mukherjee not making public, Jaitley said that Rahul Gandhi first meet Pranab and learn something from him.
Jaitley said that it would be in India’s interest that the right price for defense deals should not be made public. You can tell almost the amount but not the exact price. If you do so, you will also make the information about the purchased weapons public.
The Congress President had said – “The Defense Minister had earlier said that the price of the Rafael Deal will be told but now that he turned it into a Secret, then why to believe him now? It is clear that the matter has got disturbed. ”
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that where the public money is being spent, it is the responsibility of the government to tell it in parliament.
