“States should only use lockdown as a last resort; otherwise, we should concentrate on micro-containment areas. We will look after the country’s economic well-being as well as the welfare of its citizens “In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Modi said.
The address comes in the wake of the country reporting record daily high cases and deaths for the past few days.
PM Modi has had a number of virtual contacts and high-level meetings with state and central ministers, leading physicians, and pharmaceutical firms in order to find alternatives to the country’s rapidly rising Covid-19 incidents. The meetings have shed light on the prime minister’s directive to improve Covid-19 vaccination in the country by enabling everyone above the age of 18 to receive the vaccine beginning May 1, 2021.
In the last 24 hours, India has reported 1,761 Covid deaths, the highest one-day increase ever, and over 2.59 lakh new cases. The estimated number of cases has risen to more than 1.53 lakh, indicating a worrying increase in the second phase of the pandemic.
The country has registered over two lakh cases for the third day in a row. In terms of the total number of cases recorded since the outbreak began, India is second only to the United States.
