In solidarity with the farmers’ unrest in India, YouTuber Lilly Singh wore a mask to embrace them as she attended the Grammy Awards 2021 in Los Angeles on March 14. Lilly posted a photo of herself on the Grammys Red Carpet, wearing a black power suit and a mask that reads, “I Stand With Farmers.”
Lilly wore a black dress with a smart blazer to the ceremony, and accessorised with several chain neckpieces and hoop earrings. Wearing her I Stand With Farmers mask, she stood on the red carpet.
“I know red carpet/award show pictures always get the most coverage, so here you go media. Feel free to go with it. #IstandWithFarmers. #The Grammys “Singh wrote her social media handles next to the frame.
Celebrities including Lilly Singh, musician Jay Sean, and vlogger Amanda Cerny have shared their solidarity with India’s farmers who have been protesting the Centre’s new farm laws after Rihanna tweeted in support of the protests in early February. “Yes! Thank you, Rihanna, for lending your voice to the agitation,” Lily Singh had written at the time, thanking Rihanna for lending her voice to the agitation. Thank you a lot. This is a question of humanity! This storey is TIRED” says #IStandWithFarmers.
“The world is watching,” Amanda Cerny wrote alongside a photo of woman farmers on Instagram. To understand the dilemma, you don’t have to be Indian, Punjabi, or South Asian. What you need to do is be thinking for civilization. ” Always demand freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and universal human and civil rights, as well as worker equity and dignity. #InternetShutdown #FarmersProtest.”
Lilly used a TikTok video in December of last year to bring attention to the farmers’ strike. “She said,” she explained “Did you know that the world’s biggest human demonstration is taking place right now in India? If you follow me on social media, you know I’ve been talking a lot about the Indian farmer protests. To recap, farmers are opposing new agriculture bills that would have an impact on their lives. They’ve been peacefully demonstrating, but their actions have elicited less than nonviolent reactions.”
