A Case has been filed against two private labs and the Max corporate agency after a Covid testing scam was exposed during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand a few days ago.
During the Kumbh mela earlier this year, commercial labs empanelled by mela officials gave more than one lakh “fake” Covid-19 test results, according to health department sources. On the basis of their identity cards and phone numbers, these results were issued in the names of random persons.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police in Haridwar Senthil Abudai Krishnaraj, the state health department filed a FIR in Nagar Kotwali police station on Thursday against Max corporate agency, Lalchandani Labs, and Nalwa Lab.
“A detailed inquiry is expected in ten days as there are a lot of samples. A special investigation team will be formed. It is not possible for a lab to conduct so many tests. A case has also been registered over matters pertaining to ICMR accreditation and empanelment,” said Haridwar’s district magistrate C Ravishankar.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said strict action will be taken and the guilty will not be spared. He seemed to suggest that the former government is to blame for the issue.
