It is the result of the visionary step taken by Katni District Collector Avi Prasad, the pioneer and architect of shifting the fruit and vegetable business in the busiest areas of the city like Chaka Puraini, Golbazar and Bilaiya Talaiya in an organized form to the Krishi Upaj Mandi located at Pahrua were running in losses for last couple of years, has earned a record net profit of Rs 52 lakh in the last one year.
Benefits of trading through Mandi
The biggest advantage of carrying business from the Mandi is that traders from other places come here and buy the products of local farmers.
Due to which they get a fair price for their produce.
Due to the online payment system mode in the Mandi, the farmers get the money directly into their bank account.
The competition among the commission agents has also giving the farmers direct benefit in the form of profits.
Through this systematic trade, apart from the hospital, the hostel, the jail and the hotel businessmen, retailers and street vendors are also getting fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices.
Besides, the consumers have also started getting quality fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices.
Due to adequate parking in the market, it is convenient for the transporter to bring the produce and transport it and send it out.
Freedom from traffic jam
Earlier, due to the fruit and vegetable business being operated in the busiest areas of the city, there used to be traffic jams every day and there was a possibility of accidents. After the business shifted to Mandi, life has become easier.
Business create record
In the month of April last year, when Collector Prasad took initiative and gave advise the traders to shift the vegetable and fruit business spread in different places of the city to the Krishi Upaj Mandi, then no one had thought that this unorganized business in the city areas will touch new heights one day after being shifted to the Mandi.
If we talk about the last one year, the turnover of more than Rs 43 crore 57 lakh has been done from Paharua Krishi Upaj Mandi, which is a record.
Mathematics of profit
Due to the traders doing business outside, the Krishi Upaj Mandi did not get license fee, market fee and entry fee.
Since the shifting of fruit and vegetable business in the market, the profit figures till the month of February this year are very interesting and surprising.
Since the start of business from the Mandi, the Mandi has earned an income of Rs 3.5 lakh as license fee from around 350 traders, an income of Rs 43 lakh 57 thousand 352 from Mandi fee and Rs 5 lakh 50 thousand received by the Mandi as entry fee. Agricultural produce market has made a record profit of Rs 52 lakh.
800 people are getting work every day
Employment opportunities have increased due to the shift of fruit and vegetable business to the agricultural produce market.
About 800 people including 100 women are getting employment directly and indirectly from this business every day.
In employment, mainly works like transportation, labour, weighing (tulavati), packaging, cleaning etc. are available.
District Collector praised by farmers and traders
The farmers and traders expressed their gratitude to Collector Prasad for starting the fruit and vegetable business from the Krishi Upaj Mandi and said that the business and facilities here are better as compared to the facilities in old Mandi.
Trader Pawan Kumar Khatik says that his business has increased after shifting to the Krishi Upaj Mandi instead of the old market.
Madanpura village resident, farmer Vinod Kumar Maurya said that there is a lot of space in the Krishi Upaj Mandi and the business has increased here as compared to the old market. Thanks to the collector for this noble initiative.
Commission agent Raj Kishore Nishad expressed his happiness and thanked the district collector for the initiative of carrying business from the Krishi Upaj Mandi.
