Mithun Chakraborty, an actor and BJP politician, was questioned by Kolkata Police today about a controversial statement he made during the Bengal election campaign.
The BJP’s top campaigner in the April-May poll, the 71-year-old actor, was virtually questioned in connection with a complaint brought against him. His speech, according to the authorities, was a factor in the post-election rioting in Bengal.
Mithun Chakraborty has petitioned the Calcutta High Court to have the FIR filed against him dismissed. The court then ordered a virtual interrogation of the actor by an investigation officer.
The actor has pleaded that he had only recited dialogues in his speech, which were not meant to be literal.
The police case involves a line from one of his movies: “Marbo ekhane lash porbe shoshane (Will hit you here and the body will land at the crematorium).”
