A Kerala woman serving in Israel was reportedly killed in a Palestinian missile attack on Tuesday, according to her family members.

V. Muralidharan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, announced on May 12 that a Keralite woman was killed in a rocket attack on Ashkelon near Israel’s border with Gaza.

Soumya Santosh, a resident of Keerithodu in the Idukki district, was named as the deceased. She was employed as a housemaid in the coastal district. Her neighborhood had been targeted by Gaza militants with rockets.

According to reports, the rocket landed on the home of 31-year-old Soumya in the city of Ashkelon while she was on video call with her husband Santhosh, who lives in Kerala, in the evening.

“During the video chat, my brother heard a loud noise. The handset abruptly disconnected. Then we immediately contacted other Malayalees who worked there. As a result, we found about the incident “Saji, Santhosh’s brother, told the media.

Mani C Kappan, a newly elected MLA and Nationalist Congress Kerala leader, condemned the incident.

Kappan, who represents Pala in the Kerala Assembly, said in a Facebook post that thousands of Keralites working in Israel were living in terror.
