Akhila accepted Islam and named herself Hadia. In January 2016, she separated from her family. Hadia’s father filed a petition in the Kerala High Court in December 2016. They claimed that their daughter has fallen into the wrong hands. She can be sent to Syria by becoming a member of ISIS. They demanded to send the daughter back to her.
