After being struck by a vehicle in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, the father of a minor girl who was reportedly gang-raped by three people died “in an accident.” The incident occurred as the girl’s parent, surrounded by police officers, returned from a hospital where her medical examinations had been completed.
The victim’s family members said that the police conspired to kill the father of the girl with the person charged. A family member said that “police officials conspired with the accused, who is the son of a policeman, to kill the girl’s father.” In opposition, the family has shut down the Kanpur-Sagar highway.
According to police, the girl’s father was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. One of the defendants has been seized, according to the police.
Another member of the girl’s family also told reporters on Tuesday that they faced threats. “The elder brother of the principal accused began harassing us as soon as we lodged the lawsuit. ‘Pay attention to my dad’ he told us,’ “The member of the family said that.
Amidst the controversy, a UP Police tweet told the Kanpur Police in both cases “to carry out rapid inquiries.” They have demanded the recuperation of the truck involved in the crash and the soon arrest of the driver.
Reacting to the incident, Dr Alok Tiwari, District Magistrate, Kanpur, said: “The government and the administration is with the survivor’s family. The Chief Minister has announced compensation. Both cases will be investigated swiftly and no one will be spared. The guilty will face tough legal action. We are considering acting under the National Security Act.”
What happened
According to PTI, an FIR was filed on Tuesday in connection with the gang-rape against Deepu Yadav, his brother Saurabh Yadav, and friend Golu Yadav, according to Superintendent of Police (rural) Brajesh Srivastava. Sons of the police sub-inspector, Deepu, and Saurabh, officials said.
Srivastava said that on Monday when she was abducted by the accused, the girl went to pick cattle fodder and was brought to an undisclosed site allegedly abducted by Deepu and Golu.
According to the SP, Saurabh reportedly threatened the girl with dire consequences if she spoke to someone about the incident. The child, on the other hand, made it back to her house in the morning and told her family about the incident, prompting them to file a police report, according to PTI.
