Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, the Congress has settled to turn the hot weather on chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. MPCC head Kamal Nath has declared that he will expose the ruling BJP by posing one query every day for the next 40 days.
“40 days, 40 questions. We will inform you of Shivraj government’s deplorable situation in the words of Modi government. Whatever Modi government has exposed about Shivraj government, we will be unraveling those truths from October 20 to November 28,” Nath said in his tweet. He added that Ravana, the symbol of evil, was destroyed on Dussehra and their campaign would continue till the Shivraj government was uprooted.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi had also posed questions to PM Narendra Modi during the Gujarat assembly polls on issues pertaining to the State’s development in BJP’s 22-year rule.
Meanwhile, many believe Congress’ fresh salvo on CM Shivraj is a last ditch effort to strike a chord with the public ahead of the assembly polls. Starting from Vyapam scam, Rafale scam, e-tendering scam to bad roads, Congress raked up many issues but failed to evoke strong anti-incumbency sentiments.
Congress, while announcing the move, seems to have drawn a lead out of BJP’s book in 2003, when armed with published data from the Central government, senior BJP leaders had managed to put the then-Digvijay government in the dock on developmental issues.
Congress’ move could also force CM Shivraj to alter his strategy as well. Chouhan, for now, has been focused on highlighting the failures of Digvijay Singh’s government in his election speeches.
“Many reports from the Centre, state government and CAG have shown the mirror to Shivraj government in the past and they need to answer,” Congress Ideation Cell chairman Bhupendra Gupta said.
Responding to Congress’ move, a senior BJP leader said the party was discharging its duties as a responsible opposition and he hoped that they continue doing the same for the next five years.
The BJP’s MP wing is supposed to launch ‘Samraddha Madhya Pradesh’ from October 21 where the party would seek suggestions from the public for the betterment of the state. Subjected to Election Commission’s approval, the party would be putting suggestion boxes in public places and would reach out to people from different strata.
