After his meeting with Sonia Gandhi sparked great speculation about a top role for him. Congress leader Kamal Nath today dismissed claims of his elevation to the party president.

“It’s nonsense to talk of my becoming the president of Congress. I met with Mr.s Gandhi and discussed various issues concerning the party” Kamal Nath explained.

As Kamal Nath met with the Congress president this afternoon, rumors circulated that Mr. Sidhu will be made Punjab Congress president in an attempt to persuade him and his supporters.

According to top congress sources, there is no present plan to designate a working president or vice president, which has been anticipated.

According to sources, organizational elections to elect a new Congress president and members of the Congress Working Committee will be announced soon. With the party leadership unlikely to name anyone during the process.

According to the Congress veteran, today’s discussions focused on the party’s Punjab problems. Amarinder Singh’s feud with Navjot Singh Sidhu has become a major issue for the party ahead of state elections next year. Kamal Nath is said to be close to him.

The former Union Minister and nine-term MP is close to the Gandhis and has a good rapport with politicians from all parties. But, more crucially, he has close relations to members of the “G-23,” or the group of 23 “dissenters” in Congress. They wrote to Sonia Gandhi last year demanding sweeping changes, including “full-time, visible leadership.”

Kamal Nath is one of the most senior members of Congress. His long-running feud with Jyotiraditya Scindia exploded last year. This resulted in his Madhya Pradesh administration collapsing after Mr. Scindia moved to the BJP. This brought a huge number of Congress MLAs.

Internal elections in Congress have been postponed three times. The party delayed the polls once more in May. It cited a surge in Covid cases in the second wave. According to reports, the Congress elections could take place following parliament’s monsoon session.

“Once and for all, finish it and move on,” Rahul Gandhi remarked during a turbulent party meeting in January.

In 2019, Sonia Gandhi took over as interim president after her son Rahul resigned due to the Congress’s national election defeat. Both candidates have ruled themselves out. A non-Gandhi should be given a chance, according to Rahul Gandhi.
