Toll revenues on India’s national highways have increased to 2,576.28 crores in June, up 21% from 2,125.16 crores in May. This indicates a recovery in the country’s economic activity.
“With easing of lockdown in most states and increase in the movement of traffic on the Highways, the toll collection through FASTag is reaching the level recorded before the 2nd wave of Covid pandemic,” the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said in a statement.
India’s roadway services have started, indicating a recovery in economic activity. India’s national highway network spans 137,635 kilometers.
“Toll collection in June 2021 grew to Rs. 2,576.28 crore, up roughly 21% from Rs. 2,125.16 crore collected in May 2021,” as per the statement.
There are several interstate and intrastate restrictions imposed to limit the second wave. Analysts anticipate India’s toll road projects will still see minimal revenue growth in the current fiscal year.
India aims to build 40 kilometers of roadways every day in the current year. This will break its previous daily record of 37 kilometers set in 2019-20.
Despite the ongoing epidemic, the Ministry of Road Transport and Roadways (MoRTH) exceeded its highway building target for the fiscal year 2021. Completing 13,505 kilometers of national highways by March 31, 2021.
3.48 crore customers have FASTag, with 96% penetration across the country and 99% at certain toll plazas. FASTag is expected to save over 20k crore in fuel per year. This will also save precious foreign cash while helping the environment.
